Judge Rules Fluoride in Water Lowers IQ

The time for one environmental poison is coming to an end. On September 24, 2024, Judge Edward Chen of the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California ruled that water fluoridation at current U.S. levels poses an “unreasonable risk” of reduced IQ in children. This ruling means that the EPA can no longer ignore the threat and must take regulatory action.

On January 25, 1945, Grand Rapids, Michigan, became the first community in the United States to fluoridate its drinking water for the purpose of helping to prevent tooth decay. At the time, there was no consideration that fluoride had an effect on any other organs than teeth. For decades, fluoride proponents refused to reexamine that stance despite mounting scientific evidence from top researchers and government agencies of fluoride’s neurotoxic risks, particularly for infants’ developing brains.

While there is no timetable for the EPA to complete it’s regulatory process, cities have already begun removing fluoride voluntarily. Abilene, Texas; Yorktown and Somers, New York; and the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District in Utah are among those cities and districts that responded quickly to the Sept. 24 ruling by U.S. District Judge Edward Chen. As Michigan was the birthplace of water fluoridation, it seems fitting that we are among the first to get it out. Contact your city council, share Judge Chen’s ruling (find it here) and ask them to join the communities who are choosing to cease spending tens of thousands of dollars annually to add a neurotoxin to our water.

The upcoming election has created an amazing opportunity for us to bring chronic health disease to the conversation. Now is the time to learn and share about the totally attainable solutions for a healthier, happier, and more productive society.
